the dying system-part 4
shamanic tradition asserts that certain methods were used by the medicine man to achieve his inner flight which he would then use to gain wisdom/help the tribe/heal the sick and whatever other reason he needed for entering the otherworlds. One of these methods was the repetitive beat of a drum...in fact research has shown that certain levels of repetitive beats produce various different states within those listening , alpha states, or beta states of consciousness for example .Back in the past, and even today within distant communities of a tribal nature removed from electricity and music systems, the drum was/is still used for this purpose. When trance/acid/techno music exploded on the scene in the late 1980's and into the 90's and up to now suddenly masses of people were exposed to music containing these repetitive beats on a regular basis. Has this created a new breed of shaman? I believe the answer to this is undoubtedly,YES...shamanism is not exclusive anymore..it has been found by thousands, often without any knowledge of what they are doing/seeing.The clues are everywhere...the popular band of the 1990's 'the happy mondays' utilised rhythmic beats in their music and their dancer, bez, who was often seen at the front of the stage with his maracas involved in deep trance was travelling thru vistas i would think and acting like a deranged choreographer , a sort of semaphore man, leading the audience into different realities.other bands, the shamen, the prodigy, for example seemed to be doing stuff along similar lines, in fact the lyrics to 'move any mountain' by the shaman were shamanic in nature...'my vision, one nation, one tribe, one day will come the might to move any mountain'I have attended many of the free 'illegal' raves, before they were curbed and outlawed by draconian governmental measures (criminal justice bill)and have seen and felt the power of these places/events.People were engaged in change, deep magical change of their minds, oftheir spirits and of the template that existed and for the new one that was being brought into being.
