the corporate vacuum
The invasion and colonisation of society by corporate reality led to marked changes of behaviour models in the populations of the western first world countries.Staff within these new 'business temples' were encouraged to operate in a mode of 'positivity' and to smile all the time..ok, this sounds quite good in some ways but soon it was obvious that humans are not supposed to be one dimensional like this all the time.People struggled to maintain this saccarine mode of behaviour and soon many felt there was something wrong with them if they could not keep up this bubbly, positive image, because often this spread outside the workplace too, as big corporate companies enticed many of their staff with a whole 'lifestyle package'...so many not only worked in these temples but played in them too...workplace gyms and restaurants...work/life..24/7..tribes of corporate workers lived in cities thus furthering this belief that 'you had to be bubbly! ' so what happened when this could not be maintained? a visit to the doc and PROZAC !! hey presto! tablets now kept up the image...so many people were on them it was almost considered normal, part of the lifestyle. Cocooned in this artificial existance of fake positivity in systems created and perpetually enhanced by psychological experts with extensive knowledge of the brain and human behaviour,it was easy to get lost....divorced from the spirit.Thinking about it, they were extremely clever the creators of corporate reality, because in essence , the jobs most of the people were doing were hellishly boring, but because of the way it was packaged, it seemed attractive, it seemed somehow 'a bit powerful'..also, like any other tribe, certain lifestyle pastimes were aimed at this 'market' of consumers...drinking cool sounding coffee in imported coffee brand emporiums...i mean, what the hell is a skinny latte? or maybe i let certain trends from the collective pass me by!! lol! certain clothes 'sharp suits'...or for the weekend, retro chic, or hippy chic, or lol..latte chic!! depending on the angle offered..hell, even festivals are now saccarine tainted, so the hippy chic can get out and be chic, do a little bit of 'glamping' and be like the celebs in the magazines they read, in the rainbow wellies, wandering through the festival mud!! I digress...suddenly i realise that many have lived/or live like this, i guess it is hard not to in many ways...as most of the time we only partake in what we are offered, so lets examine for a moment what we are offered.Well, this changes like the weather..things pass out/and in /and out of vogue..i mean, go back 10-15 years ago and the mainstream would have avoided music festivals like the plague. Dirty rough weird people attended them (in their eyes)...suddenly, everyone is at it, but of course the prices have gone up, the bands cannot smoke on stage and they have guard towers manned with gangs of security guards watching the perimeter fence which is the size of a house! The days of fencejumping with home made rope ladders or even digging under it seem just hazy memories..what are people offered? television! magazines! lifestyles are 'offered' how to be, how to speak, how to come across, this is cool/thats not cool, its all so shallow really isn't it! image has been dragged to way too high a pedestal , image over substance...and they are clever, these media 'lifestyle' gurus, oh yes, they are clever.
